Fabricate and install a wire pointer (3) for
the front of the engine (4). This can be done
by forming a piece of wire that can be
tightened under one of the gear housing
screws. The wire should extend from the
gear cover to a place on the crankshaft
pulley that is easily seen.
(6)
Rotate crankshaft pulley (1) one-quarter
revolution in the direction of normal engine
rotation.
(7)
Tighten the adjusting screw (5) for the No. 1
intake valve to zero 0 lash plus 5 turns.
Use extreme care when rotating
the crankshaft pulley. Use of too
much force from crankshaft
could damage the valve or push
rod.
(8)
Rotate crankshaft pulley (1) slowly in the
opposite direction of normal engine rotation
until the piston touches the intake valve.
(9)
Mark crankshaft pulley (1) at the wire
pointer.
