6-1. GENERAL
Table 6-1, lists the common malfunctions which you may find during the operation or maintenance of the plate com-
pactor. This manual cannot list all malfunctions that may occur, nor all test or inspections and corrective actions. If
a malfunction is not listed or is not corrected by listed corrective actions, notify general support maintenance.
6-2. TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES
The following procedures do not repeat the "Test or Inspection" or "Corrective Action" procedures provided in the
operator troubleshooting section of Chapter 3 nor the unit or direct support maintenance troubleshooting sections
of Chapters 4 and 5. Perform the test/inspections and corrective actions in the order listed.
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. ENGINE WILL NOT START
Step 1. Check for seized main bearing on crankshaft.
Replace main bearing (Para. 6-5).
2. ENGINE LACKS POWER AND/OR SMOKES BLACK
NOTE
Operation at high altitudes or in cold ambient temperatures may
cause this malfunction.
Step 1. Check for worn bearings on crankshaft,
Replace all journal bearings (Para. 5-13, 5-21 and 6-5).
