5-9. VALVES MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
REPAIRS
1.
Slight scoring of the valve (2 and 9) faces may be
removed by grind valves with the valve face grind-
ing machine. Adhere to the dimensional limits
shown in the diagram.
2.
If wear of valve stems and the valve guide bore
exceeds the 0.0059 in. (0.15 mm) dimension, re-
place both the valve and the valve guide (14).
3.
Replace the valve guide (14) as follows:
a.
Press the worn valve guide from the cylinder
head using an arbor press and a pressing rod
(10.0 mm dia. rod with 7.00 mm piIot on end).
CAUTION
When installing a replacement valve
guide, ensure that the valve guide is
aligned square with the bore of the cyl-
inder head. Damage to the cylinder
head and the valve guide may occur if
installed at even a slight angle.
b.
Install replacement valve guide in cylinder
head using an arbor press and a pressing
rod. Valve guide is installed with the stepped
shoulder up. Press guides until bottom is
flush with face of casting in the inlet and out-
let chamber.
INSTALLATION
1.
Install the intake valve (9) as follows:
a.
Install two washers (13), over the intake valve
guide.
b.
Install valve seal (12) on end of intake valve
guide.
c.
Install the intake valve (9), carefully feeding
stem through the valve seal (12).
