Compactor set on level ground in a protected area.
Solvent, Dry Cleaning; item 9, Appx E
Engine off.
Loctite; item 5, Appx E
Lubricating Oil; item 6, Appx E
General Safety instructions
Rag, Wiping; item 8, Appx E
Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS
Packing, Preformed (1)
REMOVE

Remove valve cover (Para. 4-33).
Remove rocker arms and push rods (Para. 5-7).

Remove the two lock nuts (1), flat washers (2),
and retaining spring (3).
Push the push rod tube (4) up into cylinder

head (5) as far as it will go.
Remove preformed packing (6) from compres-

sion release (7). Discard the preformed packing.
6.
Remove two capscrews (8) and remove compres-
sion release (7) and gasket (9). Discard the gas-
ket.
7.
If necessary for replacement, remove star han-
dle (10).
NOTE
Do not disassemble the compression re-
lease mechanism any farther, no replace-
able parts are available.
