INSTALLATION CONTINUED
6. Install retainer (Figure 6, Item 5) on wheel (Figure 6, Item 1).
7. Install three washers (Figure 6, Item 3) and bolts (Figure 6, Item 4) on retainer (Figure 6, Item 5). Tighten bolts
to 26 lb-ft (35 Nm).
8. Remove lifting device and sling (Figure 6, Item 2) from wheel (Figure 6, Item 1).
NOTE
Alternate between rotating wheel and tighten bolts. Rotate wheel at least one revolution
between bolts.
9. While rotating wheel (Figure 6, Item 1), tighten three bolts (Figure 6, Item 4) to 52 lb-ft (70 Nm).
10. Using depth micrometer, measure depth at two smaller holes (Figure 6, Item 6) on retainer (Figure 6, Item 5).
Average measurements and record measurement.
11. Install sling (Figure 6, Item 2) and lifting device on wheel (Figure 6, Item 1).
12. Remove three bolts (Figure 6, Item 4), washers (Figure 6, Item 3), and retainer (Figure 6, Item 5) from wheel
(Figure 6, Item 1).
13. Using caliper, measure thickness of retainer (Figure 6, Item 5) near two smaller holes (Figure 6, Item 6).
Average measurements and record measurement.

14. Subtract thickness of retainer from depth measurement.
15. Add 0.012 in. (0.30 mm) to difference between depth measurement and thickness of retainer. This number
represents shim size required to set axle housing clearance.
