Section II. TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES
3-3. INTRODUCTION
The troubleshooting table lists the common malfunctions which you may find during the operation or maintenance
of the plate compactor. This manual cannot list all malfunctions that may occur, nor all tests or inspections and
corrective actions. If a malfunction is not listed or is not corrected by listed corrective actions, notify unit mainte-
nance.
3-4. TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE
Perform the tests/inspections and corrective actions in the order listed.
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTlVE ACTION
1. ENGINE WILL NOT START
Step 1. Check fuel level in tank.
Service fuel tank with proper grade fuel for ambient temperature (Para. 3-7).
Step 2. Check for throttle control lever at stop position.
Set throttle control to FULL speed position (Para. 2-5).
Step 3. Check vent bore in fuel cap for blockage.
Clean out vent bore or replace cap (Para. 3-7).
Step 4. Check for blockage of air intake.
Service the pre-cleaner and/or replace the air cleaner element. (Para. 3-6)
Step 5. Fuel may be too hot, vapor lock may have occured.
Allow the fuel to cool.
2. ENGINE STARTS, BUT FIRES INTERMITTENTLY OR STALLS
Step 1. Check for restricted or blocked exhaust.
Clear obstruction from muffler exhaust.
Step 2. Check for restricted or blocked air intake.
Service pre-cleaner and/or replace the air cleaner element (Para. 3-6).
Step 3. Possible contamination of water in the fuel.
Notify unit maintenance.
