CLEANING
WARNING
P-D-680, moderately toxic to
the skin, eyes and respiratory tract;
avoid prolonged exposure. Skin and
eye protection is required. Good ventila-
tion is required. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point is
200F (93.3C).
1. Clean the exterior of assembled seal housing (3)
and bearing with a rag, dampened with dry clean-
ing solvent and dry thoroughly.
2. Clean all other parts in dry cleaning solvent and
dry thoroughly.
INSPECTION
1. Visually inspect the crankshaft (10) for scoring
connecting rod journal, front main bearing jour-
nal, and inner race of rear bearing. Replace
crankshaft if any defects are found, and forward
defective crankshaft to general support mainte-
nance.
2. Visually inspect the crankshaft (10) for fatigue
cracks at corners of connecting rod journals. Re-
place crankshaft if any defects are found, and for-
ward defective crankshaft to general support
maintenance.
3. Visually inspect the front main bearing journal of
crankshaft (10) for grooving as indicated by a
ridge around middle of journal. Replace crank-
shaft if any defects are found, and forward defec-
