4-35. OIL PUMP MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
This task includes:
a. Test
INITIAL SETUP
Tools
Equipment Condition
Tool Kit, General Mechanic's
Compactor set on level ground.
Gauge, Pressure, Oil (STE/ICE-R); item 13, Appx F
Engine off.
Adapter, Gauge (M10 x 1); item 1 Appx F
General Safety Instructions
Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS
1.
Unit maintenance testing of the engine oil pump
is limited to a pressure test.
2.
Remove straight thread plug (1) from oil galley
near the oil filter.
3.
Install gauge adapter fitting and pressure gauge
in oil galley port.
4.
Start the compactor (Para. 2-5) and allow engine
to idle for 2-3 minutes to warm up.
5.
Observe the pressure gauge and record pressure
while idling the engine and at full throttle. Oil pres-
sure must be at least 7 psi (0.5 bar) at idle speed
and at least 23 psi (1.8 bar) at full load (2850 rpm
and 220F (100C) oil temperature).
6.
Stop the compactc (Para. 2-7).
7.
Remove the pressure gauge and adapter fitting.
8.
Install the plug (1).
9.
Report pressure readings that do not meet the
minimum specified to unit maintenance.
