DRAINING AND FLUSHING PROCEDURE CONTINUED
CAUTION
Do not add water to pre-mixed antifreeze. If water is added to pre-mixed antifreeze, it will
be diluted and will not provide proper engine protection and engine and/or cooling system
damage may occur.
Be sure to identify the type of antifreeze being added, or engine and/or cooling system
damage may occur.
NOTE
Some antifreeze is pre-mixed and requires no water.
Traditional antifreeze requires mixing with an equal amount of water. Mix antifreeze and
water before adding to machine cooling system to ensure proper 1:1 ratio is used.
It is allowable to mix traditional and pre-mixed antifreeze types in the same cooling
system.
11. Add correct type and amount of antifreeze. The cooling system capacity is 19 gal. (73 L).
12. Start engine (TM 5-3805-296-10). Run engine without radiator filler cap until the thermostat opens and coolant
level stabilizes.
13. Check coolant level. Make necessary adjustments to coolant level.
14. Inspect cooling system cap seal for debris, foreign material, or damage. Clean cooling system cap with a clean
cloth. Replace cooling system cap if damaged.
15. Install cooling system cap.
16. Stop engine (TM 5-3805-296-10).
