Measure valve springs using calipers.
Length should be 2.12 in. (53.85 mm).
Replace springs if length is shorter than
specified.

authorized personnel to heat metals.
Protective
clothing
and
goggles
must be worn. Adequate protective
equipment must be used. A suitable
fire extinguisher must be kept near
by, and requirements of TM 9-237
strictly followed.

Heat head (9) uniformly to 328° to 356°F
(164
to 180
C) using a torch.
(2)
If removed, press valve guides (8) into
head (9), while hot, until seated firmly.
(3)
Heat head (9) uniformly to 320
to 360°F
(160° to 182°C) using a torch.
(4)
If removed, press valve seats (7) into
head (9), while hot, until seated firmly.
