Hydraulic Oil Temperature
WARNING
Excessively High
DO NOT disconnect or remove any hydraulic system hoses, tubes, or
fittings unless engine is shut down and hydraulic system pressure has
been relieved. Tighten all connections before applying pressure.
Escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate skin.
At operating temperature, hydraulic oil is hot. Allow hydraulic oil to cool
before removing any hydraulic fitting.
Wear protective eye covering and gloves when performing hydraulic
system testing.
Lubricating/hydraulic oils used in performance of maintenance can be
very slippery. Immediately wipe up any spills.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to
personnel.
NOTE
Incorrect oil viscosity can be a factor in many different hydraulic system
symptoms.
Conditions such as worn cushion hitch pump, worn hydraulic and
steering pump, malfunctioning compensator valve on cushion hitch
pump, improperly adjusted or malfunctioning main relief valve, or
restricted oil passage can all cause high hydraulic oil temperature. Each
of these conditions will also create specific symptoms or malfunctions.
Identifying active symptoms or malfunctions while performing Implement,
Cushion Hitch, and Steering System Operation Test can aid in
diagnosing high hydraulic oil temperature.
Test Step 1. Test Monitoring System.
1. Turn ignition switch to OFF
position (TM 5-3805-296-10).
2. Perform Monitoring System Self-

One or More Modules Fail Self-test
Replace any module that fails to
operate as described in self-test
(WP 0506). Verify correct operation of
machine (TM 5-3805-296-10).
