TRANSMISSION OPERATION
0005
N OT E
Refer to WP 0004 for a complete description of transmission controls.
1. Transmission Ranges.
a. N (Neutral) is normal transmission position when machine is not in use. Use N to start engine, when idling
engine, and for parking. Always lock transmission in neutral when machine is left unattended in N, parked,
or stopped.
b. R (Reverse) is used to back up machine. Machine must be brought to a complete stop before shifting into
reverse. Backup alarm will also sound when in reverse, unless the military light switch is in B.O. (blackout)
mode.
c.
To select a specific forward gear range, move transmission shift lever to positions 1, 2, or D (Drive):
(1) Positions 1 and 2 are suitable for low speeds. They must be manually selected. During load, haul, and
dump cycles, manual shifting is not recommended.
(2) Position D (Drive), third speed though eighth speed, the transmission will automatically upshift
between second speed and eighth speed.
2. Operate Transmission.
a. Depress service brake pedal and hold.
b. Disengage park brake.
c.
Press and hold shift lever lock button and shift transmission to position 1 or D. Release lock button.
d. Release service brakes and begin to move.
e. If starting in (gear) speed 1, manually upshift to speed 2, then into D as engine and ground speeds
increase.
f.
If starting in D, transmission will automatically upshift.
g. Use transmission hold control to prevent unwanted shifts.
h. Use top gear control to set maximum gear range.

PARK BRAKE OPERATION
