ENGINE STARTING AND MACHINE WARM-UP CONTINUED
WARN I N G
Hearing protection is required when standing within 20 ft (6 m) of the machine while it is
operating. Failure to wear hearing protection may result in hearing loss.
N OT E
Military light switch must be in STOP LIGHT or SER. DRIVE position to sound horn.
1. Check to make sure all bystanders are clear of machine and briefly sound horn before starting engine.
2. Verify the following machine conditions:
a. Ensure scraper bowl is lowered and apron is closed.
b. Ensure park brake is engaged.
c.
Ensure transmission shift lever is locked in N (Neutral).
d. Ensure joystick is in center HOLD position.
e. Ensure all accessories are off.
WARN I N G
The monitoring system will perform an automatic self-diagnostic functional test whenever
ignition switch is turned to the on (I) position. If action alarm does not sound or monitoring
displays are not functioning, DO NOT start engine. Notify Field Maintenance. Failure to
follow this warning may result in injury or death to personnel as any Warning Category 3
notifications will not be relayed to the operator.
CAU T I ON
Do NOT crank starter motor for more than 30 seconds at a time. After 30 seconds, allow
starter motor to cool for at least two minutes before attempting to start engine again.
Excessive heating of starter motor may result in damage or premature starter failure.
Turbocharger damage can result if engine rpm is not kept low until oil pressure is sufficient
and gauge is in green range.
If engine oil pressure does not rise or engine oil pressure indicator light does not go out
within 10 seconds after engine starts, stop engine and perform troubleshooting.
Failure to follow these cautions ma result in damage to equipment.

If the coolant temperaure is below 32F (0C), the coolant temperature switch will cause
t
ether to be automatically injected into the engine.
The automatic self-diagnostic functional testverifies outputs (gauges, alert indicators, and
alarms) are operating correctly.
Gauges must sweep to the far right of their scale and then back.
Alert indicators must come on momentarily.
All segments of the LCD must come on momentarily.
The action alarm must sound.
