2-22. EXOTHERMIC CUTTING SYSTEM OPERATION.

Exothermic Cutting System Assembly.
Unsafe welding practices can cause serious injury from fire, explosions, or harmful agents. Allow
only authorized personnel to weld or cut metals, and follow safety precautions in TC237.
Protective clothing and goggles must be worn; adequate protective used, a suitable fire extinguisher
kept nearby, and requirements of TC 9237 strictly followed.
Welding procedures must be performed beyond the enclosure of shelter, welding fumes can be
harmful to personnel. Failure to comply may result in serious injury or death to personnel.
Remove all jewelry such as rings, ID tags, bracelets, etc. If jewelry or tools contact positive electrical
circuits a direct short may result. Damage to equipment, injury or death to personnel may occur.
Ensure primary power switch located on back of ARC welder is in the OFF position. Failure to
comply may result in serious injury or death to personnel.
If welding helmet has been stored for an extended period of time, place welding helmet in direct
sun or fluorescent light for 1/2 hour prior to use or until low battery indicator is off.
Welding helmet is only operational in temperatures above 25 degrees F. Welding personnel must
use different PPE when in temperatures below 25 degrees F.
Welding operation produces intense light and eye protection is required at all times. Failure to
comply may result in serious injury to personnel.

Unwind oxygen hose (1) and propylene hose (2) from hose reel (3).
