5-33. INJECTION PUMP REPLACEMENT (CONT).
WARNING
Fuel is very flammable and can explode easily. To avoid serious injury or death, keep fuel away from
open fire and keep fire extinguisher within easy reach when working with fuel. Do not work on fuel
system when engine is hot. Fuel can be ignited by hot engine. When working with fuel, post signs
that read NO SMOKING WITHIN 50 FEET (15.24 m) of vehicle.
Compressed air must be used only with
effective chip guarding and personal
protective equipment (goggles/shield,
gloves, etc).

Check pump for internal leakage.
(a)
Connect air gage and air line to pump
inlet.
(b)
Submerge pump in diesel fuel.
(c)
Apply 70 to 75 psi (482 to 516 kPa) air
pressure, using compressed air and air
gage, for 20 seconds.
(d)
If bubbles are present, internal leakage is
indicated, replace pump.
