CHARGING
000248
WARNING
Contact with refrigerant can cause frostbite. Keep hands and face away to prevent injury.
Protective face shield and gloves must always be worn when refrigerant lines are opened,
even if gauges indicate that the A/C system is empty.
Always use caution when disconnecting fittings. Slowly loosen fittings in a well-ventilated
area.
Do not smoke when servicing A/C or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
DO NOT charge A/C system with liquid refrigerant through compressor suction ports. This
charging method could seriously damage the compressor.
Charge A/C system with new refrigerant.
Failure to follow these cautions could cause damage to equipment.
NOTE
Charging should be performed at air temperatures of 70F (21C) and above. Changes in
ambient air temperature will affect the A/C system's ability to charge and will cause gauge
readings to vary.
Charge the A/C system with the same quantity of refrigerant as noted at evacuation.
Do not add a partial charge to A/C system. Accurate refrigerant charge can be determined
only by weight or by measuring the temperature of the evaporator core. Always recover
refrigerant first and then evacuate the A/C system before charging.
Operating A/C system periodically during the off-season will lubricate seals and reduce the
possibility of refrigerant loss.
Up to 7 oz (200 g) of refrigerant loss per year is considered normal.
