When sufficient covered space for all items to be stored is not available,priority should be given to items which are most susceptible to deterioration from the elements. SB740-98-1 should be used as a guide for establishing which items are most susceptible todeterioration.3.Open sites should be improved hardstand, if possible. Unimproved sites should be firm, well-drained, and kept free of excessive vegetation.Storage Plan1.Store equipment so as to provide maximum protection from the elements and to provide access forinspection, maintenance, and exercising. Anticipate removal or deployment problems and takesuitable precautions.2.Take into account environmental conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowingsand or loose debris, soft ground, mud, heavy snow, and take adequate precautions3.Establish a fire plan and provide for adequate firefighting equipment and personnel.Maintenance Services and Inspection1.Prior to storage, perform the next scheduled organizational PMCS.2. Inspect and approve the equipment prior to storage. Do not place equipment in storage in anonmission-capable condition.3. Lubricate equipment in accordance with applicable lubrications instructions located at WPs 0018 00and 0023 00.Additional Authorization List (AAL) Items1.Process AAL items simultaneously with the major item to which they are assigned.2.If possible, store AAL items with the major item.3.If stored apart from the major item, mark AAL items with tags indicating the major item, its registrationor serial number, and location, and store in protective-type closures. In addition, place a tag or listindicating the location of the removed items in a conspicuous place on the major item.Correction of Shortcomings and DeficienciesCorrect all shortcomings and deficiencies prior to storage, or obtain a waiver from the approving authority.General Cleaning, Painting, and PreservationCAUTIONDo not direct water or steam, under pressure, against electrical wires orany exterior opening. Failure to follow this caution may result in damageto equipment.
