KELLY BAR (LOWER) PACKING NUT
A.
After initial operation, the Kelly bar packing nut will tend to leak somewhat. Therefore, the nut must be
tightened in such a manner that the "leakage" leave only a "film" of hydraulic oil on the Kelly bar. The nut
must be tightened to the extent that the Kelly bar is dry.
B.
To tighten the packing nut, refer to Figure 4-7.
1. Loosen CLAMP BOLT.
2. Rotate PACKING NUT
counterclockwise until snug
3. Tighten CLAMP BOLT.
NOTE: When properly tightened,
packing will allow only a light film on
the KELLY BAR.
* TIGHTEN WITH CHAIN WRENCH SUPPLIED WITH
THIS EQUIPMENT. (SEE PARTS MANUAL, SPECIAL
TOOL SECTION FOR DESCRIPTION).
