a.
Removal.
Do not pry on main bearing caps
to free them. Failure to follow
procedure could cause damage to
equipment.
NOTE
Before removing five main
bearing caps, ensure caps are
clearly marked for their location
on lubricating oil cooler side of
main bearing cap.

Perform a visual inspection of five main
bearings and crankshaft journals. Remove
four screws (1) No. 2 and 3 main bearing
caps (2) and check crankshaft (3) journals
for signs of overheating, deep scratches or
other damage.
